It had been raining for days and we had grown tired of treading water, so we decided to sink, fully expecting to drown. "We have lived so far a life of air and sky," I said to my faithful companions. "Now we will live the life of water. I suspect it will be a life short-lived." I glanced around at each smiling face, willingly following along to what came next, and returned each trusting smile. Then I closed my eyes, exhaled, and sank below the waves, and everyone came along.
I cannot tell you if we drowned and I am now swimming in some morbid dream, or if we were changed, all of us together, but I swim now in a small school of happy fish. They dart back and forth, following my lead. They smile at me, that same trusting smile, as if to ask me with their blinking silence, "Now what?"
Hello, friends. Now what?
Later. Love.
