Monsters have certainly ameliorated in common culture. This is what happens when we stop believing in something that threatened us in the past. Monsters and gods and dragons become ridiculous cartoon characters. In lampooning them we're really shaking our heads in disbelief at our collective history of credulity.
Aliens, on the other hand, still haunt us. We like to hope that they have some surprise weakness that renders them easy to kill, like exposure to water or disease. We're still very afraid that aliens want our planet or want to make test subjects out of us, probe us and such, treat us like animals or worse. It's easy to read the guilt of karmic foreshadowing into such fears. "What if they're like us? That would be a nightmare!"
One day there will be nothing left to fear, no remembered fears left to lampoon. One day we'll all float away, nothing more to learn. One day we'll transcend this mudball and dance through the dimensions and planes of a higher reality. On that day, won't you dance with me? Won't you take a monster by the hand? Won't you welcome an alien into your circle?
Hello, friends. How are you today?
Later. Love.
