Today I walk in Native America before the horse. Today we walk and run. There is no other way. One day it will be hard to imagine that there was such a day. One day we will ride and drive and fly faster than we can now imagine, but not today. Today we walk and run. There is no other way.
Today I make my case for the world as I think it should be. I've prepared my speech, exactly ten minutes. I've practiced hand motions and diction, leaving nothing to chance. My charts and figures are indisputable, having been checked and rechecked. I will brook no argument. I will have no truck with compromise. I will, PowerPoint by point, argue for the world that should be. In the end, it is out of my hands. In the end, they will thank me and I will gather my things and leave. They will decide after all the presentations have been made. Wish me luck.
I was thinking about aftermath, standing in the ruins and adding up all the things you have kept, standing in the smoke and subtracting all the things you have lost. If, when you've finished all the aftermath, you still have a positive number, you still have at least one, then I guess you keep going. If, however, you end up with zero, then you're done. You cannot divide by zero. You can multiply, but it comes to nothing. If you end up with zero, the aftermath is done.
Today I hunt the plains of Native America before the horse. Tomorrow the Spanish will arrive, sitting astride majestic beasts. Tomorrow the world will change in ways I cannot imagine. Today, however, I walk and run. There is no other way.
Hello, friends. How are you today?
Later. Love.
