Somewhere in the world today a man has awoken in a foreign place, surrounded by sights and sounds and smells that he does not know. Today is his first day, and he will never feel the full force of this strangeness again. Already, by tomorrow, he will know some of these sounds and some of these sights and some of these smells. Within a few days, some things will be almost familiar. Within a few weeks, some things will become mundane and comfortable. Still, some things will remain foreign and surprising for years, forever.
Somewhere in the world today a woman will go to sleep alone for the first time, surrounded by a lack of sounds and sights and smells that she does not know. Who knows where he has gone. Maybe he has died, or maybe he has just left. Tonight is her first night, and she will never feel the full force of this strangeness again. Already, by tomorrow, she will start to find new patterns and new habits. Within a few days, she will forget little things about how he used to look or how he used to talk. Within a few weeks, she will settle into a new routine, and become comfortable. Still, some things will haunt her for years, forever.
Humans are adaptable. People survive and change, sometimes against all odds and expectations. Humans are capable of things they could never imagine. Humans have left bones scattered around the most remote and forbidding places on earth. How the hell did they get there, and why? Because you have to keep going, that's why. You have to find a way.
I am a fortunate man, and I am in a good place for a human. I got to wake up this morning this morning in a place that I know well, a place where I am well known. I know I may not get to stay there forever. People die, tragedy strikes, the various velocities and bearings of the multitude of vectors in the world cross paths all the time, sometimes leaving destruction in their passing. Some vectors end, and others are sent careening in another direction along an unfamiliar path. This morning, however, I kissed my wife on the cheek where she slept beside me, and this makes me a lucky human.
Hello, friends. How are you today?
Later. Love.
