Sporting Equipment (by A. Scott White)
Last weekend was our second consecutive weekend of soccer madness. Our youngest daughter, Rayn, had three games on Saturday. The field was about 45 minutes from the house, and there were two or three hours between the games, so Rayn and I sat around at the coffee shop between games. She read a book between games one and two, and then drew manga pictures of rabbit-people, complete with background information, between games two and three. I wrote software on my laptop. It was nice.
At the soccer game, all of the other parents had these really cool folding chairs. They came in various colors and patterns, some of them painted to look like Texas Flags or American Flags. Others had the logos of professional sports teams or college sports teams or consumer products like Coca Cola. Some of them had arm rests, and a few even had foot stools. They really looked comfortable, though I avoid most chairs made of plastic or fabric or wicker because I'm a big guy. I didn't have one of these chairs, so I sat on the ground. It was a very nice spot. There was a large oak tree shading a patch of St. Augustine grass. The shade and the cool earth eased the discomfort of the 90+ degree heat. The tree made a nice back support on which to lean, and I had little worry that the ground or the tree would break under my weight. There were plenty of additional amenities. There were small grass weeds in the St. Augustine to pull. There were acorn caps sitting around with which to play or whistle. Occasionally an earthworm would boil up out of the disturbed soil to look around. All things considered, I highly recommend you consider the ground for your next soccer game. There's typically plenty of it around, and it's versatile. We even used part of it as the soccer field!
Thanks, Scott! Great information! We hope this report has been useful for you. Always remember, consumers: caveat emptor! As Scott always says: Later. Love!
