This lyric was written by a fifteen year old kid in the tenth grade:
It was many years ago
When I was born
When the world was still young
And newly formed
And I grew in the dark
Before the dawn came
Bred free
From any sort of guilt or shame
But in the shadows of my heart
There glowed a fire
It was my life source
And my one desire
That one day I'd explode
Into the light
And so I set out from home
And I began to fight
Then I saw the sun rise
And I saw the day
But to me it seemed the light
Was too far away
And so I kept on fighting
I would never stop
Cause I knew that one day
I would reach the top
The kid was me. Dee and I used to sit in the back of French class and listen to rap music and write rap lyrics. UTFO, Melle Mel, The Boogie Boys, Run DMC, Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick, even a new group called DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. These were pre-gangsta rap days when rap lyrics ranged from funny to creative to cool to extremely stupid.
To complete my humilation, I'll tell you my rapper name: Par-D.
I don't know if I ever spoke with Dee outside of French class (we took French together for two years). It was a funny little detour in my life, and I remember it fondly.
So, how are you this morning? Did you do anything interesting this weekend? Sunday, after returning from the IT retreat, I removed toilets from two of our bathrooms so tile installers can install tile this week. I hope never to touch another toilet again, once I put these two back in place. What's up with you?
Later. Love.
P.S. - I posted a couple of new items on my cogito writing site. Check them out, if you'd like. Thanks for stopping by.
